Lirio Abbate / 3

Here is another piece on the story of Lirio Abbate, a reporter threatened by the Mafia. Palermo tomorrow there will be a demonstration in his support. We hope that the Italian journalists recover their professional dignity and return, together, to do only journalists, keeping in mind the purpose of their profession. Lirio FORCE!

Tomorrow all journalists are, or feel at Palermo

Tomorrow all true Italian journalists are invited to be, be heard, to feel close to Palermo, if not physically ideally, Lirio Abbate, in view of the essential value of a witness professional, personal and collective, rigorous and clean. All near Lirio, the ANSA colleague at the center of serious threats of mafia which has documented misdeeds and dark complicity. The reaction Mafia shows how important for the democratic civilization, the words of truth that break the silence concerned and affect the occult and violent than any other work of law enforcement.
The Mafia and how many thrive in its shade, must know that their terrible destructive force exerted against free men, specifically against journalists who want to be careful and accurate witnesses of deeds and misdeeds will not be able to silence the information anyway. May, alas, as did several times dramatically, hitting people, but Lirio Abbate is not alone and will not let alone.
He is now forced by the threat to his person and his family to live under guard.
But we - and we believe with all your free journalists - do not tolerate this condition as inevitable. We we stand as individuals and as a collective, in the commitment on the secular line of the National Federation of the Italian Press. This case is a matter on which is not only legitimate but is due to be deployed. And this must mean that Never return the pen in his pocket before the advance of the Mafia and crime go unpunished.
means that we stand with the law and legality, but also means that we require a decisive battle against the impunity of criminals. It also means that we ask all members of our class discussion to make a more credible newspapers and to limit the excesses of folklore and gossip that fill many pages. These are the important facts of life, our freedom and liberty upon which all is measured the quality and value of the profession of journalism. In the coming days we will remember, before the Head of State, on the occasion of the award Saint Vincent, all of the deaths of journalism at the hands of mafia, through an award to the memory of John Spampinato, the first young reporter who was killed by the Sicilian Mafia in 1972, two years after the Mafia had disappeared into thin air the influential colleague Tullio De Mauro.
We want to say never again! But we also want to say that every journalist threatened, intimidated, sometimes forced to retreat, another hundred will write for him, as is happening to Lirio from his pen when he opened a gash on this story that interested parties had not prudently previously announced that much. The event tomorrow in Palermo will be the manifestation of free men. For journalists the time of return is full of professional quality, evidence of civilization and freedom. By Lirio we are all threatened with him but we are all on the front line to say enough is enough and ask the state on these realities that truly allows fully constitutional.
